Answers, in plain language
The things pet families ask us most. Don’t see yours? Call us — we like questions.
Urgent care
During open hours, call us first — we’ll triage and hold a same-day urgent slot. When we’re closed or it’s life-threatening (trouble breathing, collapse, a possible toxin, a male cat who can’t pee, heavy bleeding), go straight to DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital, open 24/7. Our “Is it an emergency?” triage guide can help you decide, but it is guidance — not a diagnosis.
Your visit
Bring any prior medical or vaccine records, a fresh stool sample if you can, and treats your pet loves. Cats are happiest in a carrier; dogs on a leash. Arrive a few minutes early so we can get you settled in the right (dog or cat) waiting area.
Cost
Exams start around $72 and you’ll always get a written estimate before any vaccines, tests, dentistry, or surgery — you approve it first. Prices shown across this site are illustrative starting points; your actual estimate is built from your pet’s needs.
Surgery & dentistry
Modern veterinary anesthesia is very safe. We require a pre-anesthetic exam and bloodwork, place an IV catheter, use individualized protocols, and a dedicated technician monitors your pet’s vitals the entire time — heart, oxygen, blood pressure, and temperature. We tailor everything to your pet’s age and health.
Sick visits
Book a sick visit and we’ll usually see you the same or next day. If you’re unsure how urgent it is, use our triage guide or call us — our team can help you decide whether to watch at home, come in, or head to the ER.
Senior pets
Pets age faster than we do, so we recommend twice-yearly exams and baseline bloodwork for dogs 7+ and cats 10+. We focus on catching changes early, managing pain and mobility, and protecting quality of life — with honest, unhurried conversations about what’s ahead.
Our approach
Fear Free is a certification in reducing fear, anxiety, and stress at the vet. In practice it means treats and pheromones, gentle handling, separate dog and cat areas, working at your pet’s pace, and sometimes pre-visit calming meds. A calmer pet is safer to treat and gets better medicine.
Prescriptions
We can refill medications for pets we have an established, current relationship with (a recent exam) — that’s a legal requirement called the veterinarian-client-patient relationship. For controlled or long-term medications we may need a recheck. Request refills through the pet portal or by phone.
Payment
Pet insurance reimburses you directly, so we collect at the time of service and give you the documentation to file your claim. We’re happy to help you understand a policy, and we accept major cards and CareCredit. We recommend insuring pets while they’re young and healthy.
